Valenzuela's license revoked

By STEVE ANDERSEN

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela had his conditional license revoked by the California Horse Racing Board on Friday after a recent arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The California Horse Racing Board issued a one-page statement on Friday, stating that Valenzuela’s consumption of alcohol had violated the terms of his conditional license, which was scheduled to run through 2008.

Valenzuela, 45, was arrested on a charge of DUI in Upland, Calif, approximately 20 miles east of Santa Anita, on Dec. 20, according to Sgt. Greg Signorio of the Upland police department.

In a statement, racing board executive director Ingrid Fermin said: “The board has received evidence provided by the Upland Police Department indicating Mr. Valenzuela has been arrested for being under the influence of alcohol. Consuming or being under the influence of alcohol is a violation of Mr. Valenzuela’s conditional license.”

  1. Failing a random drug or alcohol test is one thing, but a DUI? I think the guy will be gone.

  2. I hope so. It's going to take something like that to finally get him into rehab and actually get serious about it. I don't think any of his previous attempts to clean up were anything more than half-hearted, because he's never gotten anything serious. It's like "Okay, I'm sorry and I'm going to pretend to clean up awhile," and the CHRB is like "Oh okay, we'll pretend to crack down on ya, see ya next week." He's going to end up killing himself or someone else.

  3. pat will get another chance....why i don't know

    but he will ride again!!!!

  4. The Racing Board has given Patrick so many second chances over the years, it seems like everytime he has a little down fall he turns to some form of substance, I really don't know how many second chances a person can receive where it appears to be fair and just for everyone concered, he is a great jockey, but sometime enough is enough.

  5. "BEING A RESIDENT OF THE KENTUCKY DERBYLAND AREA I FIND THIS SITUATION SAD FOR MR. VALENZUELA, AND THE HORSE RACING WORLD"!:(
