First, she never fired the trooper, she dismissed the Public Safety Commissioner, not the trooper.  However, the allegations are that she dismissed the Public Safety Commissioner for not firing the trooper, who at the time, was married to her sister.

Whether or not there are any real meat to the investigation is open to debate.  She has recently hired an attorney to defend herself.  However, I would imagine that the McCain people would have looked into the allegations prior to offering her the VP slot.  If not, they need to be fired themselves.

Her BIL allegedly tazered her nephew and has had more than 20 violations at his job since 2001.   I think there's more to this than just what's been reported so far.
