Question:

Did Palin have a say in the text of the speech she gave, or was she simply the performer?

The key thing I meant to say was "have a say in the text."

Yes, I know all politicians use speechwriters, but the amount of input they have in the content varies. I was interested in people's opinions on her speech, as a Washington novice.

  1. Her ideas, his wording for clarity.

  2. It was written by President Bush's former speech writer Matt Scully.

But she probably provided some input.

    Wow, what change!

  3. I NEVER heard anyone ask that question of Obama... or Biden... or Hillary... or even Michelle. You aren't naive enough to think they wrote their speeches on their own. Come on... let's try to keep the double standards to a minimum, shall we.

  4. Do you really think that high-level politicians write their own speeches? All of them have speech writers and they give input into what is said and how.

If you don't know anything about politics, please don't vote.

    .

  5. Well considering all the personal details she gave of her life, either she was the guiding force behind the speech...or the speech-writer was a darn good psychic.  At any rate, they commented on CNN that she worked closely with the speech-writer.

  6. To answer your question you have to do a little research and see who she is and what she has done since being in public office. From what I heard last night I believe you heard The Person. I know that's hard to believe (and you say as much in your question) because we have all gotten use to the fact that the "Old Boy" politicians have always told each group they are addressing what that group wants to hear. Obama is especially good at that due to being an excellent speaker, but all politicians have traditionally done this. It appears we finally have some one who has first taken action that we can see and is now speaking out for ACTUAL change. Always remember a word is only a word unless there are actual results to back up the claim.

  7. Both.  Every single politician, whether you are Obama, McCain or a mayor in Nebraska has a speech writer. You sit do with the writer and go over it, make sure what you say can sound right in your own tone and voice, and add or take away from it.

  8. Both, she has some say but it's up to her speech writer(and they all have them)to put it in the best way for her.Sadly the speech writer can put in things trying to make it come across the way they intend it to.

  9. she has a mind of her own and if you read her bio,you will find as Governor, she ran the show.ask the oil big shots

  10. Every pol has a speech writer.  I'm sure Palin is no different.

The truth is, McCain sent his communications team to work with her on the speech.  It was a collaborative effort.  (It aways is a collaborative effort between the pol and the speech writer.)

  11. both

  12. Actually she helped write it. Whats funny is that for the first half of her speech the teleprompter was malfunctioning.

  13. She just does the reading.

  14. I believe they said on CNN that she wrote it herself and gave them a copy before hand.

  15. Don't know for sure but most have writers. They give some input on what is to be said.

  16. What to learn something cool about the government?

  17. The person asking the question knows she didn't write it, ding -dong.  She's being facetious.  A republican speech writer wrote it with a copy of what she'd like to say by his side.  Do some research and you could find out who.

  18. If you watched the news channels that actually report news you would've known that she collaborated with her speech writer, but a lot of what she said was her own.

You can tell when a candidate writes a speech and when someone else writes it.  I think that speech appealed a lot to her apparently humorous and sarcastic nature, meaning she probably wrote a lot herself... unless that speech writer somehow learned all about her in just 5 days.

  19. She was just reading from a teleprompter. However, she did have a say in the way she projected what she was reading and managed to come off as an angry a**hole.

  20. Yes she has a say! Also every speach of Obama's is written by someone else. If obama doesnt have a telepromter he cant say on the straight and narrow

  21. all of the above

  22. she was as involved in that speech as Millie Vanilly was involved in singing

  23. Both. Just like every other political speech you've heard from every other politician whether that be Obama, Biden, McCain, or any one else.

  24. NOPE - she read exactly but the GWB flunky wrote!!

  25. I honestly can't say because I have no idea, but I would say it was a combination of both.

  26. She was simply the performer. Her speech was more about attacking Obama than discuss the issues in America.

  27. She has just as munch input in her speech as Obama, Biden or McCain do. Candidates work WITH speech writers.

  28. Obviously, most of the stuff about her and her family were some of her ideas. But the speech was written long before she was picked.

  29. Speechwriter Matthew Scully, one of Karl Rove's proteges, met with her last week to write the speech.
