  1. It's all public information.

  2. 9/11 is a remarkably symbolic date for a deployment. Soldiers and their mothers' political campaigns don't get to choose deployment dates, and from what I've read they learn the exact date very shortly before the unit ships out.  So I assume she doesn't know the exact deployment date and lied about knowing it.

The less likely possibility is that she used the campaign's influence to push the current administration to push the military to choose that date.  That would be putting political goals above the good of the country, preferring to lose a war than to lose an election.  Though I don't have a favorable view of the McCain/Palin campaign's honesty, I don't think they're THAT cynical and unethical.

Mistake?  She won't be caught in the lie (or the influence) and won't be held responsible for it, so from her point of view it was not a mistake.

Edit: Mistake?  If her son and his unit become targets because of the publicity, then it's a big mistake.

  3. no, this is all public information.
