Did Paula Radcliffe really pee in the sidelines during the marathon?!?

If so, how did she do it? Wouldn't it get messy? What about hygiene (washing your hands after?)? Is this common?

i dont know if she did it this olympics i never saw... but they do do it, in the womens road race i saw them jumping off their bikes at one point then standing on the grass peeing, it wasnt clear exactly how they were doing it though i think they just stretch their shorts to one side and gooooo

i think if they are in the lead and need a pee they just urinate on themselves, you would do it too if you had the potential to win

I don't know if Paula Radcliffe did that. But I can tell you that during a marathon or a long atlethic effort, women  really pee. Reason: if you have a real possibility of winning a medal you are not going to stop at a coffee shop and ask where are the toilets. So, it is a common procedure.

marathons take ages to do so you would eventually need to pee. and yes it is common to do that

Greta Wietz of Norway pooped her pants and went on to win the Silver Medal in the 1st olympic womens marathon in Los Angeles in 1984.

There is so much money at stake in the Olympic games that I guess that hygiene can wait until after the race has concluded.

I watch Olympic swimmers blowing snot from their noses in the olympic pool. I guess chlorine pool chemicals solve that problem.

The Canadian announcers said she relieved herself and I saw her squatting.  They also said she went to the washroom but they didn't elaborate.  I don't blame her though.  I don't think I could hold it in for 2 hours and be able to run 42km.

I got  video of her doing it in 2005.
