Question:

Did Steve Smith just punch out the Panthers' season?

I opened my edition of Sporting News Today and the cover story is asking whether Steve Smith's latest outburst might undue the Panthers season before it begins. Carolina is 15-17 over the past two seasons and coach John Fox is on the chopping block.

  1. yea thinkso :(

im a jaguars fan btw giants arent going to super bowl lol they got lucky\

    go jags!

  2. I still expect big things from the Panthers this season. Jonathan Stewart is a monster and nothing heals wounds like winning.

  3. we will miss him for 2 games

but we'll have him for 14 game

did he punch his way out of the season WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY

no he didnt punch his way out of a season for us

last i checked jake delhomme was back to

  4. He will be out 2 games.

Last I checked they play 16.

They have their QB back and should be fine.

It will be tough to make the playoffs with Tampa Bay and New Orleans in their division, but anything can happen in the NFL.

  5. yes

  6. I think itt will they are struggling to begin with and this will just break up their team

  7. It's a long season. The first two games without Smith won't decide their season.

  8. They suck anyways...their season was over before training camp even began.

NY GIANTS going back to the bowl this year!

  9. the annual optimism over Carolina, and the lofty predictions are not quite as abundant this year, and with good reason. Stewart may stabilize their running game, but it's been a wreck since 2003 when Stephen Davis was the last Panther to rush for over 1,000 yards. Delhomme hasn't played a full season since 2005, and is coming back from Tommy John. i'll be mildly surprised if he throws more TDs than picks this year. as far as the receiving corps, Muhammad needs to learn how to operate a time machine and Hackett must tap into some of his potential to take pressure off of Smith once he does take the field. it looks like they still could split their first 2 games (at SD, home vs. Bears), but it just got a lot tougher to do it. with this incident, they now have an excuse (which is worthless), and something to divert attention (a benefit?) away from their biggest deficiency- defense. they lost Jenkins & Rucker from their D-line, and their secondary is pretty suspect. Carolina has little margin for error. losing their biggest playmaker for 2 games for losing his cool is a pretty big error. no playoffs for Carolina, but i wouldn't have predicted a playoff run even with Smith playing 16 games. as for Fox, he might get to finish the season as coach, but before New Year's 2009, the ax drops.
