Did Taylors Sky retire too soon?
A lot of greyhounds retire from racing every year, but some leave their fans a bit more dejected than others.
Taylors Sky was certainly one of them, as he won the hearts of thousands of racing fans. He was simply one of the best and made his team proud on numerous occasions, winning quite a lot of major events.
The talented dog ended his career on a high, after winning the final race of his career comfortably. He was rated as the outright favourite to succeed in that event and did not disappoint his fans at all.
Although, he could have won a lot more races in the future, his team decided that he should now retire to stud life, which was more important.
His co-owner, Steve Taylor stated on Taylors Sky’s retirement, “His performances at the highest level speak for themselves and I’m sure I will never own a greyhound of his calibre again. With the winter coming along, I felt it was the right time to bow out
at the top and he deserves the chance to make his name as a stud dog.”
Charlie Lister, who trained the quality dog, was also pleased with what he had achieved together with Taylors Sky. He rated him as one of the best ever hounds and added, “I’ve no doubt he was right up there with the best four-bend greyhounds I’ve trained,
including Rapid Ranger and Some Picture.”
Westmead Hawk’s son out of Rising Angel started off his career way back in 2010 and his performances were right up to the mark from his very first outing. He did a lot of training in order to become one of the best performers at the highest level of the
sport.
All his hard work paid off in the coming years, as he managed to win numerous Grade OR encounters with the passage of time. He kept on growing stronger and never gave an easy time to his rivals.
His most memorable performance was in the Greyhound Derby at Wimbledon, which he managed to win in 2011. He was a remarkable servant to the sport and will definitely continue contributing in the future in another way. His retirement came at the right time,
as it is always better to leave with everyone wanting more.
