I haven't heard has Tony Blair been given a title and if so, what was it? And, I'm speaking of legitimate titles and not vulgarities, though you're free to chime in on that one.

  1. As an ex Prime Minister Tony Blair is entitled to an Earldom, like every other ex PM. However, the trend has been of late for the privilege to be foregone in favour of a simple knighthood - Heath, Major. They were also awarded the Garter order of Chivalry which is the gift of the Queen and is limited to 24 non-Royal members. Margaret Thatcher took a barony so that she could remain in active politics by sitting in the Lords. I'm sure that Tony Blair will take a title eventually (there is no hurry) if just for his execrable wife!

  2. Nope. In May 2007, before Tony Blair's resignation, it was reported that Blair would be offered a Knighthood in the Order of the Thistle, rather than the Order of the Garter, due to his Scottish connections. No such move has been reported since, and, on St Andrew's Day, the Queen appointed two men to the only openings in the limited Order.

  3. Yes he was offered the Grand order of the Prat (American and British definition of the word) plus the Order of the Rectal o*****e.

  4. I do hope not!!

  5. Not yet. His predecessor as Pm - John Major was not made a knight until 2005, four years after he left office and eight years after he was Prime Minister, he has reportedly refused a life peerage.

As his knighthood is as a Knight of the Garter, this is a personal knighthood granted by the Monarch (rather then on advice of the Government) and is regarded more highly than  other knighthoods especially as there are no more then 24 members of the Order (plus the monarch and various members of the Royal family and some "stranger members" who are without exception foreign royals
