Question:

Did You Change Your Baby To Whole Milk Before 1 Year?

I'm only looking for people who changed their baby over to whole milk before a year

Most books and people you ask will say wait until the baby is a year old. Nestle Nutrition recommonds 9-12 months. My friend also switched her baby at 8 months and adds vitamin drops to the milk. Many people tell me it's fine to change my son over but i'm still not convinced.

If your baby started drinking whole milk before the age of 1, at what age did he/she start and did you have any problems.

  1. I didn't switch over until age 3, it was a comfort thing for baby.

  2. talk to your pedi fist.. making a decision like this based on what other people say is a careless thing to do.. google why its important for a child to stay on formula or breast milk until a year of age..

Really why the rush? 3 months longer wont hurt you..

  3. I started giving my kids whole milk at 10 mos. When I was a baby, the recommendation was 6 mos. So, it's constantly changing. When I started giving my son whole milk, it gave him diarrhea. The doctor said to change him to 1 percent and give him cheese and yogurt for the milk fat. It worked well. Formula is just easily digestible cow's milk. If your baby has a normal tummy, it should be fine.

  4. I would ask your pediatrician first, before listening to anyone else.

  5. yes i did...cause my son was growing like a weed...completely skipped the baby jar foods...he was breast feed then went to formula and then well he wanted more foods and i gave him whole milk. the only problem was he did get a little constipated. so be careful with that, make sure he or she gets water too. but he was eating solids food as well...so if you are giving him straight up milk i would definitly add more to their diet than just plain whole milk.

  6. I introduced whole milk at 11 months old. But I continued with breastfeeding too. The doctor okayed the start of the whole milk.

  7. First ask your pediatrician because it depends on the health of your baby, and how developed your son is.  His digestive tract can't process it before a certain age, and you also want to make sure he's getting enough nutrition elsewhere so that he doesn't need the nutrition from either breast milk or formula.

  8. I do KNOW of someone that did at 9 or so months and the baby did wonderful on it.(only with her docs permission)..my baby is only 7 months so I can't speak for myself only from someone I know :)

I agree with the others though, just ask the doctor and see...it's only a few more months

  9. talk to your babys doctor about it.

  10. If 11 1/2 months counts, yes.

  11. The concern about starting babies on whole milk before they are one year is that they will develop dairy allergies later in life.  If your child is not on breast milk, he or she is already getting cow's milk in the form of formula.

As long as your pediatrician is ok with it, and you supplement with vitamin and iron in the whole milk, it will be OK, especially if he is already on solids.

  12. no i asked my doctor about that and she informed me that your child should stay and homo milk until about two years old, the nutrients in the milk helps your child's brain develop, but I put my son on 2% the same milk mommy and daddy drink when he was about 1 1/2  and he is fine, and sooooooooo much easier having to buy one kind of milk hahaha....but if you still have concerns, I would also talk to your doctor....good luck

  13. I did not start my son until he turned one.  The last week I did move him to 1/2 my milk and 1/2 whole milk milk at daycare  so that he would get use to the taste.
