The division of Berlin and subsequent Blockade, created a chasm between ideologies as different as Chalk and Cheese. It took International effort and cooperation to provide the basic elements of survival through the Berlin Airlift.

The Berlin Wall created further division between freedom and oppression, hope and despair. Again, International Cooperation succeeded in overcoming the Communist position and the wall came down.

The same kind of Cooperation and Understanding is required today to overcome the issues the Global issues we share of, poverty, unbalanced economic power, terrorist threat and damage to the ecology.

I think the Unification of Berlin is a brilliant Analogy and Inspiration for any concerned citizen or candidate to the International Unification of Effort required to overcome 21st Century issues. But I didn't catch it till the second time I listened.

  1. You know it sounds so much like Newspeak that George Orwell would be proud. US Military and economic might tore down the wall by inspiring the citizens and breaking the Soviets. All this flowery BS is great for wine sipping sessions....

  2. Okay here goes.  At the end of WWII the USA and Russia were the two strongest nations. Our ideologies were totally opposite.  The decision was made by the Allies to divide Germany.  Russia thought it should have all of Berlin but it was decided to also divide the city.  Berlin was surrounded by what became known as East Germany. Russia, in hopes that they could force the western countries out of Berlin, cut the city off from all ways of getting supplies except for flying them in.  So that is what the Allies did.  The supplies themselves were primarily from the USA the only country in the west that had not been devastated by war.  It was also American pilots and planes doing most of the work.  As to the Marshall Plan this was a plan for the USA to send equipment and money to Europe not to receive it from Europe.  We were the lucky ones during both world wars.  Very little of the fighting was on our shores.  We did not have to rebuild anything except the economy and we set to work and did that very quickly.

What you have pointed out is just another reason to not vote for Obama.  He is not, as much as he would like to be, running for President of the world.

  3. you bet I can.
