Where to start? I'm not going to make the usual excuse that many fellow fans use like "No Ronaldo" and "Injuries".

We were not up to par in every position... We lacked any cutting edge on the wings, Nani didn't pull his weight which i am very confused about because from the end of last season you could tell he was improving in to a good team player. This match showcased how much he still needs to work on his overall game.

Fletcher has played right wing several times in his career and i expected more from him, whenever i see we don't have Giggs or Ronaldo i instantly think put Fletcher there because he can do a stella job. Today he just wasn't up for it and with Neville being below par in fitness and performance we really needed a strong right midfielder. I'm not talking about dribbling and crossing, i mean keeping their shape and providing an outlet for Scholes etc.

Rooney well i have defended him a lot, not just because he plays for United but because i felt he always contributed something. However tonight i didn't see anything he didn't seem commited at all, one bright moment when he did a one-two with Park but that is not enough... By a long shot.

The substitutions were not great decisions, i can understand Neville for Brown due to lack of match fitness but if we are seriously contemplating that the Super Cup is a trophy we need then why not field a defence that has proved to be successful? Neville has played in 2-3 games this season and in both he lacked sharpness and why not let him regain this in the reserves? Park was a welcome addition as he is a hardworking teamplayer who never gives up and is severely underrated in his passing. O'Shea? No idea why we make him the sub for Anderson... Anderson has played 8 games in around 20 days but Possebon is a lot better even though he lacks experience. O'Shea is more of your 'holding on for the win' substitution.

I can go on all night... We need not only a natural striker with a fox in the box instinct but i feel we need another winger. It is clear to see that Giggs' hamstrings are still troubling him and if they play up like they did a few seasons back then we won't see much of him. Nani too indecisive as well so bring in some sort of wide midfielder to back the team up. I have said for a long time that we should of gone for Pogrebnyak and now it shows why, he was outstanding.

Zenit are a great team and can be a match for anyone on their day. At least we didn't get thrashed like Leverkusen, Bayern, and Rangers.
