Did a dog really eat a baby?

This was a big news story about 30 years ago. A New York City woman gave birth to a rape baby. She had no friends or relatives so her dog was alone and unfed while she was in the hospital for about a week. When she got back to her apartment she left the baby on the floor(she was so poor she had no furniture and couldn't afford a baby sitter) with the dog and went to the store to get some dog food. When she got back she discovered the starving dog had eaten the baby. The last I heard, she was charged with murder. Seems terribly unfair under the circumstances. I never heard what happened to this unfortunate young woman. Anybody know? Is this story even true or is it some kind of urban legend? But I do remember reading about it in the papers.

She shouldn't have never left the dog there with the baby in the first place. She should have taken the baby with her. There is no excuse for this. and I don't think it was unfair at all that she went to jail for murder. I'm quite she that she isn't an idiot. She shouldv'e known what would happen leaving a baby alone with a dog.  So she deserve to go to jail.

It's not unfair, and she was probably charged with child neglect along with murder. Regardless of the baby's age, it should not be left alone. I have a five year old brother and my mom never leaves him alone.

Her circumstances are sad and unfortunate, but it would've made sense if she would've at least carried the baby to the store with her. A young child shouldn't be left in that type of situation like that.
