A friend told me this, all I could find was some info on a group that perished trekking K2. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me, supposed to be doing the Everest Base camp trek in a month and getting a little nervous...

  1. You do not have to be nervous for that. Everest base camp trekking is not a Climbing. It is just a walking in the high altitude. Though it is normal high altitude trek but you should be careful for your acclimatization. For this you should keep some extra day in you trekking itinerary. Like you should stop one day in Namche Bazaar, one day in Dingboche before heading to Everest base camp. If you need more information visit: http://www.guidenepal.com

  2. I think you are referring to the avalanche in the Mt K2. It was not trekking but mountaineering in the K2, one of technically most difficult mountain peaks to climb.

The trek to the Everest Base camp is nothing of that kind. It is just walking with a backpack and staying at tea houses along the way. The problem you might have to deal is that of the altitude sickness. Allocate adequate time for acclimatization and you should have no problem at all.

  3. these type of accidents keep on happening...if you dont have enough experience then you shouldn't go just yet....go when you are completely confident

  4. I hope not but what with the stats on Everest and all.
