Question:

Did all paint used to contain lead, or only certain colors? And can simply touching the paint cause exposure?

Today I was at a house that was built in 1968. I touched the painted region of a white door to the porch. The paint seemed to be in good condition. I do not know if the door had been around for as long as the house had been, if it had been repainted over, of if it was a new installment. Assuming that the door has been around from the house's construction, is it essentially a guarantee that it's been painted over, since then? I mean, would the original paint even have lasted that long? It's been forty years since 1968, after all.

In eithercase, could any lead have been on this door? It was a sorta off-white color. If indeed the paint applied to the door was of the leaded sort, could any of the heavy metal have have abraded off onto my hand, simply from the contact of me pushing its surface so to open it? I washed my hands immediately on getting home, but I'm afraid my steering wheel, light switches, and door k***s at my home might now be contaminated because I had to touch them. Is this possible?

Even the tiniest conceivable smidgen of lead is harmful to the human body, which makes me pensive, because it accumulates in organ and bone. There is, in scientific literature, absolutely NO safe level of lead in the body. Since I'm a late teen, my brain still has some developing left, as well. Do you think I should have my lead levels checked from this? Is it possible, yes or no, that lead could have come off the door and onto my hand?

  1. Brad, you have asked this question many times. Each time, the answers are that there is no danger.

But you don't seem to believe that, so get yourself checked.

all colors of paint contained lead.

Remember people like Einstein, Helmholtz, Ampere, Boyle, etc, etc,

probably grew up in houses painted in lead paint, as i did, as anyone over the age of 40 did.
