  1. I did and now I know that it is cruelty.

My parents did not know any better, I guess.

  2. Yes but I am guessing I was under 10 years old. Probably repeated something my  grandpa had said or possibly something my dad said after hitting his finger with a hammer.

Either way, I remember the word sounded like "some bits". The caustic taste of the soap kinda ruined any meals that day.

  3. No, I never had that happen.

  4. Mmm.   This one belongs in fish or cat column. Sure it does.  Surest way to make a pet sick, isn't it?

Anyway, I think maybe I got this treatment one time from my Aunt. It didn't do anything except maybe make me want to swear under my breath.

  5. My parents never did that, but I had a babysitter who used to pick a red hot pepper out of her garden.  I developed a taste for them after a while.

  6. Yes. My mother was famous for that. Sometimes I would say "d**n" and my little sister with the big mouth would run and tell. She was the good girl, the sweetheart of the familyLOl. She was sneaky is what she was. I never told on her (she was not as good as they thought) because I was not a tattle-tell. And no, the soap did not work. d**n! Poppy

  7. YES! And I am alive and well to tell about it! I dropped a few bombs in front of my Mum when I thought she would not hear and I tell you. I am 41 today, and I STILL wont repeat those words to her!! Ha ha ha a

  8. no

  9. When I was little I was out playing with my brother and friends when one of the older boys from another road came to the recreation ground and told us some swear words.  My brother decided we would all march down our road shouting these words to see what would happen!

So there we were all in a row with me, the youngest, at the front with a big stick and white cotton hanky tied to it like a banner shouting these words "Fu**ing b*st**ds!!!"   Mothers came from every direction grabbing their children and walloped us all there on the spot!  Bars of Fairy Household soap were shoved into all the mouths....mine included....and we were all crying and screaming.  I have always remembered that day and referred to it on occasions when my children have used bad language lol....the soap in my mouth punishment worked for the rest of my childhood as I didn't want THAT again! lol.  Not only did i have a mouth full of soapy bubbles but I also was extremely ill through swallowing some of it.

  10. I remember Mom saying "I have never heard such a bad word!" and wrong thing to say to little Pagan...my smart mouth..."Well, then how do you know it is a bad word???" No Soap...but I sure had my share of spankings!!!

  11. Not me but I had a cousin who was a sassy kid and as soon as he sassed his mom she would go for the soap.

He never learned and to this day he is a smart mouthed guy.

He never did swear.  I don't know what would have happened if he did.

    My aunt could get angry.

    DeeJay.

  12. just for talking back..

  13. No, my dad could look at me and wish I had a choice between his "look" and the soap.  I would have taken the soap!!!

BTW, my daughter was going to do this with dish soap to my g'son and I said, "no, that's concentrated!!!!  Some young mom's grab the dish soap!!!

  14. I was threatened, but mom [bless her soft heart] never could do it.

  15. Did it once to my son who is now over 30 years old and believe me it worked. He is a son to be proud of.

  16. Yes! I used a curse word-- and it worked. I didn't use any again (till I was much, much older). I remember using it on my young son (some years ago). I didn't realize that wasn't the right thing to do... It did keep him from cursing, too, though...

  17. Yes, and no one ever explained to me what the bad word meant.

  18. I used to keep the bar of soap in my hand & put it in my own mouth just to see the look on my Mother's face!  She'd take it away & beat me anyway...we bought soap in the large econony pack of 3!  Ha-Ha-Ha.  RIP MA

  19. I have a permanent lifebuoy smile

  20. No. My mom used a peach tree switch on my other end.  It was effective.

  21. Yes! All these years later and I STILL know what a bar of Ivory Soap tastes like! But evidently I was slow to get the point because I remember it happening quite a few times....once even by my grandmother just for saying the word "pregnant"! (Makes me wonder what she would do if she could hear the current common vocabulary of kids today....lol!)

  22. Pets/ fish or cats?  haha Now THAT'S funny!

Yep!  I still remember it well!  I bit someone.  What did you do?  ;o)

  23. My mother's favorite brand tasted awful and it didn't work. I refused to use that type of negative reinforcement on our children.
