I have a daughter who is about to turn 3 years old. She still babbles a ton....its hard to understand about half of what she says. She's good at trying to repeat things, but she's bad at answering questions. For example, I could say to her "Did you eat soup today?" and she'll try to repeat the question instead of answering it. I know that children are all different but I can't help but feel concerned. Does any one else have experience with a late talker and when did it get better?

  1. my little brother had some trouble talking he was born 3 months early so they were concerned anyway about his development. he had ear infections and stuff quite a bit so my parents took him to a specialist to only find out they had to get tubes put in his ears something to do with the amount of fluid in his ears shortly after they were put in he was able to say more as time went on he talked better. hes 9 now that was when he was 3-5 yrs old. there could be many things possible why your child isn't saying alot children grow and do things at a different paste then others. please don't think cuz i have a 9yr old brother i'm not familiar w/ kids i'm 30yrs old with 2 kids of my own who are completely different from one another my oldest was doing things way before my youngest is and theres a six yr difference my oldest is 3months younger than my brother.

  2. My 3 year old didn't make one sound except for crying untill his 3rd birthday. He never babbled, cooed, nothing! his doctors tested for everything and had me worried sick. But when he started talking he was talking in full sentences. He is still a little hard for other people to understand when he get excited but he talks so well. If you are concerned talk to the doctor but remember that some kids are just late talkers.

  3. Please get her into early intervention.  3 year olds shouldn't be "babbling" anymore.  She should be saying 3-4 word sentences at least.  A "late talker" is considered 2 years old, not 3.  Your dr. should have told you this but apparently you don't have one.

  4. my oldest was 3 1/2 almost 4 before she started talking. depending on what state you live in i would go through an at home speech program before anything. in the state of ks they have free services called infant and toddler services. they come to your house and do a free eval on your child. i would call your local school first and find out if they have such a thing. if they suggest you to go somewhere then i would go. my daughter was told that she has autism but, her school said that they didn't see it in her. my now four year old still has a speech impediment, and was almost 3 before he started talking. my oldest got into the early child developement preschool class at 3 for a speech delay and she just turned 6 four days ago and you would even no there was anything wrong with her. she had her own little language at 3. i would also find out from your school if they have such a thing as parents as teachers. they have it here in kansas and it's wonderful. i would start there and see how he does. even if you have to wait till his 3 and then find out from the school and what they say it's works out alot better. my oldest was told at 2 that she had pdd and come to find out it's not pdd. it's just her. that's how she is. he's a doll now but, when she was in school she was just one of those where you had to repeat yourself to get something across to her. i literally have to have her touching nose to nose for her to listen to me. it works for me. i'm sorry to be rambling on like this but, i went through the same thing with my oldest and it's like a recording. it's like it just happened yesterday and now she's 6.

had to put this in too. my oldest when she wanted something she would point and say "eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh" she would follow simple commands and still does but, had a problem with the speech.

sorry had to put this in. at 18 months my oldest vocabulary was mom, dad, hi, no, bye, cow, and mom. by the time her 3 bday rolled around she was say maybe 100 words and by that age she should have been saying 350 words. when she got into school is when she started talking and you couldn't get her to stop. kinda like me. LOL!!
