  1. Excellent call.  I hope you bet a lot on him.  I didn't see that one coming.  I thought Zito had him in the race to set a hot pace so Anak Nakal could overtake Brown in the stretch.  My husband bet him because he liked his name.  He only bet $2 because I told him the horse was only a pacesetter.  I'll be hearing about it for years.

  2. I put a little money on Da'Tara to win, wish it had been more.  He had times that were as good as Brown's but his trainer didn't announce removing him from steroids or a hoof crack.  He also looked like a greyhound racing a rottweiller.  Go Da'tara!

  3. I guess I don't know very much about horses. I just followed the 'hype.' After Casino Drive was scratched I though Big Brown would be the winner, for sure. I hope they find out why Big Brown was "lifeless" in that race....

  4. II bet 20 to Win... I put all the names  except Big Brown in a box and picked one to bet on,  I seldom bet the favourite

  5. I didn't figure on Da Tara....I figured on the other Zito horse.  Figured Da Tara would go out and "slay the giant" and then the other one would come on and win.

  6. My daughter thought Da'Tara would win ... she always goes for the best-looking horse!

Actually, she knows quite a lot about horses, so I'm not surprised that she called it right.

I was, of course, hoping for Big Brown to win the Triple Crown, and I'm still worried about him ... nothing much has been said about why he performed so badly.  I have to think something went badly wrong, but I don't want to speculate.  I'm really hoping he just had a bad day or was simply tired.

I wasn't surprised that Da'Tara took the early lead, but I never expected him to go wire-to-wire ... I was pretty sure he was a speed horse rather than a distance horse.

I think American horse racing needs to rethink itself ... 3 huge races in just 5 weeks is brutal ... no wonder there hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in 30 years!  It's just asking too much ... those horses are really just babies, and I'm hoping that today's disappointment might translate into a closer look at the rules and regulations for Thoroughbred racing in this country.
