Did anyone catch this detail about Palin's daughters situation?

The legal age of consent in Alaska is 16. The girl is 17. So what this girl & her boyfriend did was perfectly legal & there's nothing Palin can do legally. I wouldn't even say it makes her a poor parent. I'm sorry, but its pretty common for 16 year olds to be sexually active these days, is it not? The age of consent varies in every state, usually somewhere between 14-18. In the near future because of social norms, we will likely see the age of consent drop in most states. Did anyone else catch that?

you should site your sources but all in all she is just a teenager that is dealing with the consequences that were handed to her and that is commendable. kids do it nowadays.  It makes her a great parent for supporting her daughter and her daughters actions should not effect anyones judgement on what she does. I am an obama supporter but we are all americans. the answer to problems such as teenage pregnanacy is to teach abstinence and safe s*x. I am unsure how involved the The Palins are in their daughters life, but studies show that involving kids in sports and music help prevent teenage preganacy

So what if Palin speaks about abstinance? Her daughter can decide for herself what she wants to do in her life. Including being sexually active.

That's great to have the age of consent 16, now at what age to be employed at a good job to support a child. Here we go again where kids can have all the fun they want, but can't be held responsible for their actions by having to support that child by working at a job.

Payment should be given to girls willing to go around the schools telling their stories about having a baby or babies at a young age, might help out a get deal. Hold the fathers of these babies responsible for every amount it takes to take care of the child.

Forget the fact their candidate has close ties to domestic terrorists, people like Jeremiah Wright and convicted felons in Chicago.

There are two major schools of thought here:

1) She's 17, the aoc is 16, se can do what she likes, it's perfectly legal, young people, like everyone else, have s*x. Fair point.

2) Her mother touts abstinence and a hard line on conservative family values, so it speaks of a failure in parenting that she cannot instil the values she preaches.

Now...the wash up of this is not that Ms Palin is a bad mother. It's probably just that her views on abstinence are outmoded and unworkable.

It is also abuse to keep the child and pretend that it's yours for your own political purposes and not teach your daughter personal responsibility and honesty.

Okay, I'm going to say this to you.

Well, that is very fascinating, the fact remains it has nothing to do with her daughter. Her daughter's pregnancy was just what everyone needed to trap Sarah Palin in her beliefs.

She doesn't think that s*x education should be in schools.

She believes in abstinence only.

She doesn't believe in abortions/contraceptives/birth control.

So, with her daughter getting pregnant everyone *the media* basically said, "well, if your daughter is pregnant, do you still believe those things?"

That's what this is about. Not her daughter, because had Sarah Palin not said those things and been affiliated with Feminist groups against abortions *or so they say* then nobody would give a d**n about her daughter. They'd challk it up to her being a teen and move on.

But it makes for great t.v. to drag her daughter in the midst of it and paint it to seem like it's about her daughter and solely about her when really it's not so why not?

She's not the first unwed teenager to get knocked up and she won't be the last.

But Sarah's daughter being pregnant does shine the spotlight on a serious issue in this country.

who wasn't having s*x when they were 17? In fact I started when I was 15, some of us just get lucky and don't end up pregnant then there are those who aren't so lucky and end up pregnant. Yes they should have used more caution and protection but what can you do? At least she's being responsible in her mistakes.
