Question:

Did anyone else notice the irony that a series sponsored by car insurance encouraged fast driving in the rain

It was so ironic (and funny as heck) that the first year Nationwide sponsors a NASCAR series they decide to have their first rain race. What do you think the higher-ups at Nationwide thought of that?

*I would have asked this Saturday but I was away from home (and my laptop) and I forgot about it last night when I got home.

  1. I am curious at the look they would get if all of the drivers filed a claim after a race?

    Canceled...!!!

  2. If I wasn't a Nationwide policy holder, I might think that it was funny and ironic.  But since I pay them for car & home insurance, I'm a little bit resentful.

Now if State Farm or Allstate sponsored the series, I'd be ROFLMAO!

  3. No but now that you mention it that is ironic. Maybe now anytime there is rain they will throw a yellow put on the rain slicks and then go back racing.

  4. i think the whole thing played well into a great commercial for nationwide - "take a cue from the professionals, when it rains out, make sure you have the right tires on, check your equipment, and SLOW DOWN" which is exactly what happened. when they did that, the race was amazingly free of cautions and wrecks under green. yeah, a couple cars went off-track under green but that happens on dry track too.

now, that they let it keep going under caution with water puddling, hydroplaning, and no visibility after the drivers had told them they couldn't see was bad. that also plays perfectly into nationwide's "commercial message." when two perfectly good cars were torn up (villaneuve's and logano's) under caution, that provided the visuals for another perfect commercial. "know when it's safe and when it's not. if you can't see and control your car, then it's time to pull over, no matter what anyone else says." and in that they could include carl edwards trying to clean his own windshield from the inside...

    ;-)
