Question:

Did anyone else see that terrible call against the Rays?

That's exactly why we need instant replay. A.J. Perzynski clearly jumped toward Willy Aybar. Why can't umpires just be objective? They were obviously in the tank for the White Sox.

  1. Even if baseball had instatn replay they wouldn't use it for that. You get bad calls you just got to get over it.

they earn the win just like other sport team get the f over it.

  2. I saw the play. It was a bogus call. Even if the call of obstruction were somehow correct, the runner should have been put back at 2nd base. The wording on obstruction rules were to allow the runner the extra base if in the umpire's judgement it prevented him from clearly reaching the next base safely had no obstruction occured. The play clearly shows the runner was never clearly going to reach 3rd base whether this was obstruction or not. So the umpires got it wrong on the awarding of 3rd base for sure, and in my opinion was not obstruction in the first place because the runner caused the contact on a last ditch effort to bait the umps.

  3. That was simply ridiculous!!!  It wasn't even close.  I think I feel more sorry for the Twins, since they lost a game in the standings over this c**p.  Rays should have had the sweep or at least a chance to.  That play changed the whole game.

  4. Yes.

Once again, I will answer all of these questions the best I can. If you have paid any attention to baseball in the past, there is something called smart ball. The White Sox are pretty good at it. That was a heads-up smart play by AJ Pierzynski, and I will let you know why. After Aybar threw the ball to whoever tagged AJ, it was his job to get out of the way of AJ. AJ was turning back towards third, and took a small lunge to get Aybar to run into him. That is the smart part. It has happened all over baseball for the past few years. AJ is a very smart player, and he is a main reason for that victory.

And for instant replay, that will take the whole option of smart ball out of baseball, and should not be used for little things like this.

And the umps did not cost the Rays the game, so don't even say that, bceause that is false.

  5. The Rays will still take that division, even the greatest team is allowed to lose every now and again.

  6. First of all there is no need for instant replay on a call like that.  Secondly, Aybar was definitely close enough to AJ for contact to be made.  There was no jumping at Aybar, he simply stuck his elbow out.  Aybar put himself in a position to be liable for obstruction. It is not the umpire's fault it is Aybar's fault.  Thirdly, you can't say that call changed the game when the Rays gave up 13 hits 6 runs and had an error.  I noticed an earlier poster claiming to be an umpire misquoted the obstruction rule.  If a runner is obstructed he is entitled to AT LEAST one base beyond the base he last legally touched.  This would give him third base in this instance not second.

  7. I also don't understand why umps can't just look up at the big board and see a replay and change it.

  8. Thanks for answering mine.. now I'll agree with you on yours! That was utter bullshit.. The umpires should be able to watch replays on the d*** field.. then we wouldn't have stupid calls like that!

  9. Big deal, it was a tough call. I'm willing to bet there's been calls go the Rays way this season, too. In a 162 game season it comes out petty even in the end.

So sit back, relax, remember the Rays have one of the best records and ENJOY it. Whining about one call like this is very unbecoming.

  10. Ha ha. People hate A.J. Pierzynski   because they heard some MLB players do. I can see why they do. The man plays with his head in the game. He was bumped. Slightly, yes, but bumped. Watch the 2005 post season and see how the man won a game for the White Sox and did a lot  of other things, too. I want him on my team. Any day.

  11. They were obviously in the tank for the White Sox??

you must be pissed or just frustrated because your TEAM tampa bay rays lost

The umpires had the right call it was a heads up play by AJ

    it wasn't a terrible call

  12. seriously...you guys have what, maybe the 15th bad call on one team all year? the team is in first place, stop your bitching

get used to it..the rays have arrived and they wont get calls anymore..

  13. well even with that awful horrendous call, had navarro been able to pick the ball out of the dirt anderson would have been out by 10 feet and the sox would have been swept at home. So if im a sox fan i don't feel good about how they played vs. real competition instead of bottom feeders like KC and seattle.

  14. Rays fans are quite the whiners!

You should be directing your anger towards your catcher for botching an easy out in the 9th that would've ended the game, not at A.J for playing heads-up baseball.
