Did anyone ever do the Census surveys when you went door to door?

Did you carry pepper spray with you? I know it's a random question but I was reading something somebody else posted and I thought of this. I know my mom did it once.

Yes but didn't carry pepper spray. we went in pairs, too.

I haven't but my oldest daughter did. She carried a club for the dogs. Pepper spray wasn't available to the public in those days. Seems like it paid pretty well too.
