Where they stick the tubes in their throat and give them apple juice for however long. I am very scared to get this done to my daughter. She is 5 months, but her doctor made me an appointment. Can anyone tell me exactly how this works, or if there are any risks involved or anything. Thanks!

  1. They will give her a liquid to drink called barium. They will x-ray her as she drinks it to see if she is experiencing reflux.

Both of my girls had this test done. It was quick and simple. The side effects are that the barium can upset their stomach. Their p**p will look chalky and white as they pass the barium. It may cause diarrhea, but not often. Otherwise the test carries no more risk than a simple x-ray.

Both of my children tolerated it just fine and there were no tears (from me or from them!)

  2. My daughter had one done but they placed a tube down her nose and into her stomach - it was left in there for 24 hours and recorded the results. The procedure was simple she gaged a minute but that was all.
