  1. This email is unlikely to be genuine. Oyster cards will be useable on the suburban rail system in the future, but at present can only be used on the following rail services:-

Chiltern Railways between Marylebone and Amersham only

and the former Silverlink North London Line now called 'London Overground' from Richmond to Stratford and

from Kentish Town to Barking. (starts 10th November)

Elsewhere on the suburban rail system Oyster Cards can ONLY be used if you download a 'Travelcard' on to them covering the zones in which you wish to travel.

  2. No they cant. Only on selected lines and selected services subject to A.T.O.C agreement.

Transport for London has no rights on Independant overground services.

  3. Yes but it only on the routes that TfL Overground have taken over. (These lines were called the North London Line & Some of the lines in London that was formally run by Silverlink).

Anyway if you buy a season ticket between a weekly and a Yearly as an oyster card and its say zones 1-3 or 1-6 or 2-6 or all zones. you can use the oyster card as long as you carry proof that you bourght it and it has the old BR logo on it.

  4. From November 11th Oyster pay as you go can be used on the lines formerly operated by Silverlink, there is no change with any other train operating company.

Their publicity is misleading, not for the first time.

  5. only in certain areas. London overground will have the use of Oyster but that wont be fully operational until 2012.

Lets say chiltern railways. You can only use your oyster card up to amersham on the aylesbury via amersham.

Any national rail station that in inside london can use oyster card however this is an exempt on some journey. Check http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/oysteronli...
