They just previewed tomorrows episode of Tyra and it is about kids who are breastfed. But not those of an "average" age. The girl they showed in the preview was 8!!! She was saying she loves breastmilk more then mellon and breastmilk more then this and that. I think kids should have SOME right in self weaning, and I am totally accepting of anyone who chose to breastfed to say 2 YO. But I just can't get past it when a kid is able to ASK for the boob, like by name! My bestfriends aunt breastfed her one son until he was 2 1/2 she finally stopped because at a family gathering they had he walked up to her infront of a TON of people and told her that he "wanted a sip" and pointed to her chest. I know some cultures go until 7 Years of age. But in a sense I think it is sort of perverted, especailly if it is a male child being fed. At that age kids know there are physical differences between boys and girls and I just think it is pushing it too much. What about you?

  1. ALl I have to say is SICK, why would anyone think it is ok to be "breastfeeding" that long. If you want to pump and provide it to your child that way, I suppose that is one thing. but to actually let your 8 YO be on your breast at that age; there is something seriously wrong there.

ALso-Iamhis0=you should have red your own article the writer states that the age of weaning is between 2.5-7 not 2 until whenever they decide otherwise. So next time pay attention to your own info.

  2. i STOPPED when my boy was 18 months old and even then people thought that was too long... But it is important during the first year, it gives nutrients but that is way too much

  3. oh i just saw it im watching tyra right now with america's next top model

  4. I agree. Man whats next. I'll check the show out.

  5. omg thats nothing, my friend knew a girl who breastfed at the age of 12. im like seriously..these kids have problems and so do the parents why do the mom keep letting them do this? thanks for letting em know about it ill watch it? what time? the 4:00 one or earlier one (i think its 4, it might be 3 or 5)

  6. I saw this on youtube and was disturbed.  It is great to breastfeed but this goes WAY beyond that.  The child is weaned and we are not intended to be at the boob for our entire childhood!

  7. Yuck. My friend said they were at dinner with this one couple and the waiter came over to the table. The breastfeeding child lifted his head up and said he wanted chicken. She said he was like 3 or 4. I get if people want their kids to have the benefits, but pump it and put it in a cup if it's that important to you.

  8. I don't understand why anyone would put the milk in a cup instead of breastfeeding.  It's not a bad thing for a toddler or child to know what a breast is, it's not a "dirty" thing, it's completely natural.  I have breastfed both of my children. My oldest weaned herself when she was a toddler, my youngest is fourteen months and still happily nursing.  I don't think I'll be nursing till eight, but that is a personal choice.  Children around the world nurse till six or seven, just because the US has hangups about breastfeeding doesn't make it disgusting or weird.  It is one of the best things I can do for my children.  I think if we were more educated about breastfeeding, we would be much more encouraging and accepting.  By the way, a male breastfed child does not see his mother's breast as sexual objects.  I think that assumption is ridiculious.

  9. I agree it's really not cool to breast feed a child that old it's one thing if they where pumping the milk into a cup maybe then it wouldn't be so weird but still using the boob is wrong. I think the oldest you should breast feed is 2 maybe 3 if you are pumping the only thing I see good from it is that her children are healthy and that's always good. I am going to watch that episode by the way.

  10. Absolutely! I think that once a child realizes what it is they shouldn't. I don't even think I would until my child was two. They know what it is.

  11. I think it is ridiculous to judge a mother for doing so. In countries other than the United States, which has a horrible view of the human body and breastfeeding in general, it is quite normal to nurse for between 4 and 7 years, and sometimes a little longer.

Here is a great article on the natural/biological age of weaning, which estimates it to be between 2.5 and 7 years.

Calling breastfeeding perverted is very ignorant, and shows how one has been influenced by societies unhealthy views of the b*****s.

All of the major health organizations of the world agree that there is not upper age limit to breastfeeding, and that it is healthy, natural, and beneficial to nurse for 3 years and beyond. And they note there are no psychological negatives to extended nursing. In fact, children who were allowed to wean themselves are found to be more emotionally secure.
