Come on now people be serious do you really think mayweather was really going to fight the winner of cotto and margarito?

h**l no he dont want none of that,, i think he just wants to lay low for a while, let all the welter weight

destroy eachother then he will come back to regain a title from some bum he knows he can beat..

Mayweather accomplished alot during his career only problem is no one really likes him,

sure he has some fans but for every 1 fan there are 3 haters...

Why do you think mayweather really retired?

Do you think he will ever fight cotto? if so who wins?

Are you a mayweather fan? or a cotto fan?

What welter weight do you see still holding a title in 4 years?

  1. Floyd Mayweather will beat any welterweight out there. No explanation needed, real boxing fans know that neither Cotto nor Margarito have what it takes to take Mayweather. I see Andre Berto owning the division in the next four years if he doeosn't get moved along to quickly. His speed is unrivaled, only Clottey comes close to having his level of speed. If Paul Williams somehow manages to stay at Welter, he will probably be a force in the division too, he has the tools to take out anyone in the division. I hear that Vernon Forrest is supposed to be good too.

  2. Money Mayweather will fight Cotto! Cotto will eventually start letting his mouth right checks that his butt can't cash...forcing Money to beat him up just as he did Hatton...

  3. I just want to see de la Hoya - Cotto... that may be the biggest fight ever! go oscar!

  4. No, I didn't think floyd would fight Cotto just yet. I think he would have fought Margarito though.  Knowing Floyd, I think he's most likely gonna stay retired, but I'll tell you this - Floyd LOVES money.  And be truthful, what bigger payday will he ever have than a spring or summer fight in 09 against Cotto if Cotto fights and beats De la Hoya in December? It doesnt get any bigger than that, it would even outdo Floyd's fight with Oscar, in both the gate and ppv earnings.  So its possible.

If they fought, I expect it to be a matchup of styles.  If Floyd can use his speed defensive ability to keep Cotto off of him, and away from his body, then I think Floyd decisions him in a very close, competitive fight.  If he tries to prove everybody wrong and bang with Cotto, he could be in a lot of trouble, because while Floyd is much faster, and has good power, Cotto is too strong for him to fight toe to toe, and he would just take 12 rounds of punishment.  That fight would be very similar to the Cotto-Mosley fight.  Personally, I think Floyd will chose to box him, get in and get out, potshot Cotto, and not give him a chance to get those big body shots off.

Floyd W12, probably 115-113 on all three cards.

I'm a big fan of both fighters, both have been great competitors, and great champions.  Say what you want about Floyd's choices for recent fights, there is no denying the men he beat to get to the point where he could choose in that manner.

In 4 years, I see the divisions being split between Cotto, Paul Williams, and Andre Berto.  Josh Clottey will be in the mix, but those three will be the top dogs.  The only problem is that Cotto has so many fights in front of him, it might take him a while to get at the other three, while those three have plenty of time and youth to beat on each other.

Great point from Greg S. about Paul Williams. I totally agree that its very unlikely Williams will be at welterweight for 4 more years. most likely middleweight by then.

  5. I don't think Mayweather will return to the ring unless he loses a lot of money.  Mayweather did accomplish great things in his career, but he never unified a division, if he would have done that at 147 there is really nothing else he could accomplish in his career.  I think Mayweather retired, because he assumed he could live off the money he made and off his name for the rest of his life.  I like both Mayweather and Cotto, but I am not a die-hard fan of either.  As far as welterweight goes we have to see we have

Cotto/Margarito WBA/IBF - strongest contender to hold a title, but four years is a long time for anyone.

Paul Williams WBO - I can't see him staying at 147 for four years, more likely after a few more fights at welter he will move up to 154 or even 160.

Andre Berto WBC - He could hold the title indefinately if they keep feeding him soft opposition.

  6. Anyone who thinks Mayweather ran from Margarito or Cotto I guarantee you, knows nothing about professional boxing or Floyd Mayweather Jr.  Point #1. Mayweather is the best boxer in the world pound for pound and would box circles around either guy. He may not go toe to toe like a Margarito (which is what will cost Cotto his undefeated record when he losed to Tony later this month) but Floyd is a businessman first.  If he has lost his desire for the sport, to train and to give his 100% then thats not fair to him, his family, his fans (true boxing fans not bloodthirsty pseudo boxing fans) and although I think his place in history is secure, I do believe he will be back. Point #2. being a Mayweather fan I love to see him fight these guys who people say he is ducking and he will return once he's been away long enough and he will beat either Tony or Cotto. Because of his granite chin I think he beats Margarito by decision but if he ends up fighting Cotto he knocks Miguel out in 7-8 rounds.  In 4 years the welter division will be completely made over.  Maybe an Andre Berto or someone we havent seen the best of quite yet.  There is some Mexican who is supposed to be pretty good coming up.  Will be interesting.

  7. ive always said mayweather would never step into to the ring with cotto or maragarito.  their was a lot of floyd nutthuggers who disagree with me . looks like i was right again.

i think mayweather will come back when he sees someone he knows aint muc of a threat be a champ like baldomir.

mayweatehr hand picked his opponents and thats what i didnt like about him. with his supior skills he should have taken the toughest challenges out their.
