I read that he was listening to mostly negative rap music.I don't think it represent the USA in a positive way. This is NOT a prejudice statement...I simple don't like negative rap whether it is by a black or white or purple people.

  1. Sure, It's OK.  I received an email just yesterday titled a picture of Phelps's early years. . .it showed an egg with all those little sperm swimming really fast toward it. . .one was way out front, beyond the green line, captioned "Michael Phelps" ! ! . . .lol lol so cute ! !

  2. yeah he was listenin to Weezy" I'm Me"

  3. yes =]

  4. yes

  5. How does it represent the US negatively if a person listens to music on a personal MP3 player in headphones that no one else can hear?  It's not as if he were sitting on the starting block with a boom box blasting while the TV cameras were pointed at him.  He's not forcing it on anyone else or even endorsing it.  I'm sure many would feel much more warm and fuzzy if he were playing the "Rocky" theme song or "Battle Hymn of the Republic," but that's not what works for him.

I, for one, am eternally grateful that we, as Americans, have the right to listen to whatever we want to, even if it might offend others.  The folks living under the Communist regime that hosted the Olympics can't say the same.  God bless the U.S. Constitution, the First Amendment, the right to free speech.

  6. Rap, Death Medal ,there's some rough stuff out there.

As for Phelps, I don't care. He really doesn't make my cake  rise.

  7. Well, as someone who grew up in the same neighborhood and culture as Phelps (yep, his mom actually works for the school system my dad works for and where I temped for the last 6 years - and yes, I've met her), this is just the typical music for him.  I'm not a rap fan (and I'm 22, same age as Phelps) but it's the preferred music where we are both from.  I think that the reporters just wanted to cover this story because everyone is so infatuated with Phelps - who BTW was a normal person growing up and still is a normal person, just an Olympic winner.  I personally don't think it matters what he was listening to - I like to listen to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to work out, he likes to listen to rap.  I hope you don't take this as disrespectful.

  8. So in addition to looking like a tall monkey, he has bad taste in music. Does the fascination ever end?

  9. I dont think its about if we wanted to know...or whatever...but music is good for getting you pumped for somethin....i like all kinds of music but rap gets me in krunk mode haha :) there goes my two cents

  10. They asked him on a interview on NBC and he said yes

  11. i had not heard that, but i guess to each his own

  12. Knew what he was listening to and he's entitled to his choice of music. While it's not my favorite, if it made him more pumped to swim better, more power to him for finding an inspiration. I dont think it  has any impact on how people see the United States.

  13. rap music tends to pump someone up and gets them into the mood to do something and take their anger out on something.

then again thats more with rap that talks about someones tough childhood (cough eminem), rather than 'ohh baby shake that booty' sort of music.

i dont think theres anything wrong with using music to pump yourself up before a big swim. at least hes not pumping himself with steroids, right?

  14. He has said that's what he listens to.

I think music is appreciated across the board.....we all like different music....and none of it is bad.

If it's something you don't like....don't listen to it.

Also.....I wasn't aware of the USA sanctioning any particular music for the Olympics.

  15. For God's sake, he won a record # of medals, he represented the US very well, he's the star of the Olympics, what does it matter to YOU if he was listeneing to rap music? This is a free country sister. You have the right to your opinion of rap music, but you dont have the right to dictate other people's taste in music. EDIT: Again, sorry to the real Peapie.
