No calling for backup or air support in the octagon. When he finally faced a halfway decent fighter, he crumbled.

  1. It sounds like you are deriding the guy's military service. Not cool. Other than that, Stann is a newcomer who still has very limited tools. Was he overhyped? Yes. Will he be back? Yes. If he continues his training with Extreme Couture he will definitely be back. Cantwell went in there and did what he said he was going to do though. Lightheavy champ at 21 yrs. old.

  2. Your first title defense is always the toughest.

Look what happened to Georges St. Pierre, he got beat by a guy that no one thought belonged in the cage with him.

It turned out it was the best thing to ever happen to him.  Let's hope the same thing happens with Brian Stann.

By the way, the guy he fought, Steve Cantwell, is a good fighter.  That was the 2nd time they fought.  The first time, Stann KO'd him in 1:48 seconds of the 1st round.

  3. Yeah.  He didn't look the same.  I like the guy, but he got pummeled.

    He'll be back.

  4. The descent fighter he faced he had already tko'd once before but he did get his *** handed to him last night. Can you say Stann vs Cantwell 3?

  5. Yep.  Great card.  Every fight ended in a submission or KO.

  6. I thought it was a great fight - Brian Stann always relys on his strong hands and big heart to win his fights.  It wasn't enough last night; Stann was out struck, and out wrestled by an opponent with well rounded skills.  The best thing about the fight in my opinion was that in defeat Stann was very humble.  Hi post-fight interview said it all: "I'm a baby in this sport, and I'll take this loss back to the gym with me and work on my shortcomings" essentially.  Not many fighters, much less belt holders would have the guts to admit that.

I admire Stann as a person and a representative of MMA - but as he points out, he's got a long way to go as a fighter.  He'll be back in contention for the belt within 18 months.

  7. HA!!! great. i wanna kick his groin!!!
