Question:

Did anyone see the Dark Knight as confusing or "too intellectual"?

I'm curious, because I read a quote from Robert Downey Jr. (many know he starred in "Iron Man") where he said:

"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.'

I thought the storyline was excellent because it was more complex and psychological than your average action movie, but clearly there are people who think otherwise. Thoughts?

  1. First of all Iron Man Sucked I hated that movie. The Dark Knight is a real movie and it had nothing that was confusing I think Iron man Was confusing. Anyways Superman is the best and when the Reboot they are making comes out I will be there to watch

  2. He was just jealous because the Dark Knight made more money than 2 Ironmans could have made. The Dark Knight was amazing.

  3. The Dark Knight was the best batman movie ever made, it was different from every other one.  Although it got a lot of publicity from Keeth Ledger, it still was a great move

  4. I loved it because I thought you had to think about the ending to really understand the movie. It was an amazing movie and maybe Robert Downey Jr. should see it again because it made more than his Iron Man movie. :D

  5. I completely disagree, It wasn't too intellectual, it wasn't as simple as a standard superhero movie but even a child could understand it.

And to dude above....its HEATH not Keeth.

  6. i don't think it was too confusing. I had a question or 2 about it, but "too intellectual?" i don't think so...

    ...

    then again, I'm pretty smart.

  7. The Dark Knight movie did require more 'smarts' vs. Ironman. Both are exceptionally well done, and whereas Ironman is what you see is what you get, the Dark Knight is based on a person's perspective ability to assemble to those pieces of the puzzle.

  8. the dark knight is my new favorite movie. but rly alot of ppl have short attention spans, so after 2 hrs of watching the movie, they kinda jst lyk zoom out u know. but its a rly good movie. i loved it

  9. I get the impression that Robert Downey Jr. was making a joke about how movies like Iron Man were straight forward and were based on action scenes while Christopher Nolan has made The Dark Knight into a real crime drama that isn't as straight forward and asks the audience to think about the characters and themes involved.  I don't think Jr. was literally saying "F-ck Batman", but making a joke about how intricate Nolan made TDK.

  10. What's the matter? Not enough BOOM BOOM and s*x scenes in it for u?

  11. I didn't think it was especially intellectual or difficult to understand at all.  Some of the action scenes were confusing but I think that was more an issue of poor editing than the way it was written.

It was still a great flick, though.

edited to add: I do agree with a previous answer that RD Jr was likely being facetious.  He is a smart guy.  I'm sure he understood it just fine, it was more like a tongue-in-cheek jab at how convoluted some of it was.

  12. Wow, some people should read the whole question thoroughly before answering.

I think a lot of it has to do with jealousy.  Robert Downy Jr.'s movie Iron Man was good.  I thought it was one of the best this year, but, it was blown away by The Dark Knight.  Robert Downy Jr. is jealous so he's making up c**p about it.  He's not a dumb man, so he has to say "it's to intillectual, I don't get it" to throw people off from seeing it.

    That's what I think, anyway.  He's jealous.

  13. The dark knight is my favorite movie. I think it was amazing. I'm ALOT younger than robert downey jr. and i understood it. I think to some people it might have been a little confusing. I think it would be confusing to the people who know nothing about batman because they make a lot of references but, overall i dont think it was a confusing movie at all.

  14. it was not too intellectual or confusing .
