Question:

Did anyone take the 6/08 chemistry regents today?

I don't know if I just had an awful teacher, but everyone in my class found it d**n near impossible. Both chemistry teachers employed by the school told us that it was the worst regents exam they had seen in years.

We hadn't been taught half of the material. Ridiculous.

  1. Yea I thought a lot of the wording on the questions on these test were weird. The wave-mechanical model was worded so weirdly I think the answer was 4 (spectra electron one) but I changed my answer last minute to 2 (atomic arrangement of crystals) or something like that.

The free answer for the 2 part question (bonding and intermolecular forces) was difficult too!

And the only way I got the atomic spectra one was because I did a practice regents the night before and it had the same question in it.

  2. The answer to the sub-atomic particle question:

Normal electrons are in the ground state. When an electron is excited, it jumps to a higher energy level. When it falls back down to th ground state, it must release energy, which it does: in the form of light. The spectrum is from electrons jumping from a higher energy level, back down to the ground state.

  3. The atomic spectra was taught to my class at the beginning of the year. As for question 36, I used the atomic masses to sort of help me with figuring out that question. The original equation that was written contained four grams of hydrogen and 32 grams of oxygen. I simply doubled the number of moles in the equation to match the question they asked. Many of the questions on that Regents required some thinking. I still found it hard, even though I'm a high-90 student in Chemistry. The reaction of teachers and parents might cause a change in the test itself.

  4. that's the saem word ive been using all day to describe the test - RIDICULOUS!

RIDICULOUSLY HARD!! the multiple choice was tricky and the writing was too wordy.

yea, those old regents exams were easy in general, you dont even have to compare those to this one to say that those were easy.

this test was impossible. and i have like a 95 average in that class. this test just was horrible

  5. Yeah seriously!  I was expecting there to be a lot more questions with obvious answers.  Does anyone know what the answer to #31 (the question about the wave mechanical model) was?

For #36, you had to convert the grams of the reactants (H2 and O2) given to moles, and then you would know that you had to have 4 moles of H2O, which equals 72.

  6. I'm so bad at chemistry and I had an absollutely terrible teacher this year.  So i think i did pretty bad on this.  =/

  7. yes it was!!!!!!!

my teachers said it was one of the hardest regents ever, prolly the hardest.

& i studied a lot, the old regents were so much easier.

  8. wow a lot of people are still traumatized with the d**n regents

not to brag or anything, but it wanst that hard actually idk

    I just hope everyone passes

  9. YES!, it was hard. everyone said so. even my teacher

  10. i thought it was ok but hard i study alot for it and the old regents seemed way better than this one Well i just hope i passed !

  11. I am a teacher!  I taught my class all of this material, but yes, the style of the questions and the breadth of detail was unlike anything that has ever been released on old exams.  Teachers will have to readjust their teaching a bit.

My best students who I predicted would be in the high 80's and 90's were mostly low eighties and a range of 70's.  There is so much to understand in chemistry.

If you are a student who wanted to do better on this regents, I advise you to study hard on your own or in summer school, practice not 1 or 2, but all of the old regents exams, and take it again in August.  If you are disciplined in your study, and check the corrections in the barron's red book, you are guaranteed to improve.

  12. it was very difficult for me, and the worst part is for me is that a few days before the regents my teacher told us that if we fail the regents he will fail us on the report card with a 55 for chemistry =[. i hope he changes his mind.

  13. I also took it is was really hard. I had a good teacher and it was still hard.  my teacher was annoyed that question 36 was not regents material.

it was a stoichomatry problem with H and O and how many grams of O and H to make water it was wierd and the answer was 72.
