Basically the show was about the child s*x trade in Cambodia. Girls as young as 8 years old were being pimped out. They were going up to the undercover people offering them bj's with a smile on their face. The undercover officer says he only sees a smile like on his children's face when he tells them they are going to Disney World. They were being pimped out by a teenage boys. Their moms were helping the boys to pimp them out. You could get two, three, and four little girls at a time. You could pay high doller to take the virginity of a ittle girl. The taxi driver knew right where to take the men and never batted an eye because it's the place men tourists go for s*x trips.

I nearly threw up several times watching the show. I know international adoption needs to be stringently regulated. I know ideally it would be better if we all could give those countries money where their economy is better, BUT this is NOT and ideal world. That willl never happen....

  1. The plight of children all over the world is often horrendous.  I completely agree with you on that, and we SHOULD do something.  We shouldn't just pretend it is not happening.  But this is not an adoption issue, it is a human rights issue.  We do not solve the problem by bringing a couple of kids home with us.

If you feel called to this issue get online and do some research.  There are organizations that are fighting to stop the abuse of children worldwide.   I think that as citizens of a country with so many resources that we should speak up.

  2. i am not against international abortion

  3. Probably because there are thousands of kids already in the US that are waiting for families.

I feel soooooooooooooooooo bad or those poor babies on countries like those. The leaders are failing.

  4. newsflash...according to the u.s. dept. of justice and every major police department, this happens in the united states, also.

and most of the trafficked kids are:  FROM THE US FOSTER CARE SYSTEM.

in other words, as horrible as it might seem to watch acts against humanity in other countries, let's try cleaning up our own home first, before acting so self-rightous. also, the reason why these girls are pimped out is because most MEN WHO ARE PAYING TO s***w THESE LITTLE GIRLS are...(hold your breath) AMERICAN AND CANADIAN!

you wanna stop the problem? advocate legislation to lock up these sick b******s; and not advocate snatching little girls from the only culture they know. i realize that most westerns believe that we have an "ideal" world that anyone would want to assimilate in...when in reality, our world is more "idealized."  hence, we tend to ignore the impact of forcing others to adapt to our culture.  even in the face of autrocities in their home country.

in other words, the solution to child trafficking in cambodia, taiwain, brazil and other poor countries is to stop fueling the trade...and not snatching little girls from the only culture they know...sometimes into the communities (and gasp: homes) of the same men who would pay to fly across the atlantic in order to...

ps..  i traveled to africa and saw the deplorable conditions in sierra leone and ghana.  and i also traveled to chicago and new york and witnessed foster-to-adopt programs where kids paraded before potential adoptive parents, hoping to be adopted.  my belief, don't use the same autrocities that are being committed in our country as a rationale to fuel the fetish for adopting "exotic" international children, when there are hundreds of thousands of children in THIS country who need homes!  it's a red-herring.

PS. take a look at YA TOS...you are not suppose to "chat" with answers.  an occassional comment...yes. responding to everyone's answer, not so much.

  5. I saw it too and was appalled.

I don't know who is against international adoption  but  these girls were not up for adoption.   True, someone needs to rescue them and the local government and police need to enforce strict laws against this.    They are so poor they sell kids to make money.   Their hearts have been hardened to whats right or wrong and the children suffer .

So much goes on all over different countries and in our own land.   Sick Perverts keep them in business.   They will pay on Judgement Day and hopefully before.

  6. I do not think adoption is the answer to this problem.   Those girls would have been sold into slavery whether or not international adoption is allowed in Cambodia or not.

What we really need to do is find the guys who travel there for this purpose and castrate them with a rusty knife.  Make an example of these creeps.  Eventually it would stop.  Out of fear at least.

And, of course, the guy and his family who sold their house and moved over there to actually help out these girls had it right.  We need more people like him, people who actually do something about what bothers them rather than point fingers about how those girls should be adopted into homes not in Cambodia.  I am sorry, I do understand what you are saying, but I strongly believe that this is not the answer.

We have a long way to go in this world towards making sure the whole world knows and understands that woman/girls are men/boys EQUALS, and as such should be treated with the respect.  Of course, in some countries no one is treated with respect, and this needs to change.

However, we can't just go over there, saying that they have everything all wrong, and steal their children away from them.  Robbing a country of its children and children of their country is not the answer.

  7. The way adoption is handled in most 3rd world countries is unethical if not criminal and does nothing but breed more atrocities.  I get touched emotionally watching censored biased TV but unless you get involved and see all aspects, you will not understand that adoption is just a band aid, if that.  Do you know that s*x trafficking in the US is on the rise because of the lax adoption laws and the criminals taking advantage of it.   Do you know that minors are used a servants here in the US because of the lax adoption laws. Do you know that there are thousands of children living in the US that have been kidnapped from their parents and adopted by US citizens trying to save healthy babies and toddlers.  If you knew then you would realize why the church needs to stop preaching adoption is a solution to poverty.  By the way, a lot of what you saw actually does happen here in the states. The US has an enormous amt. of pedophiles look at the stats of incest and how many go to Asian countries to get their fix.

  8. i totally agree with you but we also need to take care of all the children in the US who don't have parents too. Me and my husband are adopting a 10 month old little boy from Alabama and we should have him home soon :) i am so happy but we are also going to do foster care. Who knows maybe we'll adopt one on down the line from another country.

  9. And why is adoption always the answer?

Take one kid away, there are still thousands left to continue the practice.

Here's a thought...why not do something to fix the CAUSE...not put a bandaid on the symptoms.

Adopting kids doesn't treat the root CAUSE of why this is happening in the FIRST PLACE.

Adopting kids and taking them from their homes, families, cultures, and heritages is not going to solve the problem of why this is happening in the first place.  This will just continue to happen...generation after generation after generation.  We can't adopt 'em all, can we?  No.  But we CAN attack the problem behind it, and hope to fix what's WRONG in the FIRST PLACE.

  10. Now watch this: What Really Happened in Cambodia

and then tell me how you COULD support adoption in cambodia?

    http://poundpuplegacy.org/node/4070

But you didn't say anything about changing adoption, or adoption reform, you said how could you not support international adoption. I'm saying, i would never support the conditions of adoption the way they currently are.

Reform? why not adopt the mothers who are being forced to be s*x slaves as well? why not adopt the mothers and help them raise their children ? Joyce Meyers sponsors homes in cambodia that take girls out of the s*x slave industry, teaches and trains them for employment, feeds and houses them during the process and gives them a future. They do all this without stripping them of their heritage, culture, land, and people and identity. They do it all without adoption. Because adoption isn't the CURE, adoption is an added loss ontop of the losses currently present in these unfortunate lives.

Anyone who thinks adoption FIXES the problem is seeing in black and white my dear.
