Did anyone watch the food channel when Paula Deen had Edie Eason on?

Edie Eason made her famous Cinnamon Buns. She used a "starter" for which she gave the recipe for. She advised that you must take care of the starter as it is a living culture. However, she does not tell you how to take care of it to keep it alive. She has had her starter for 42 years. Does anyone know how you take care of this starter as it is made with potato flakes?

I saw the show, but they did not go into enough detail.  Perhaps this is a family secret recipe.  Did you try searching the foodnetwork.com site or paula deen's website.  Try also searching the southern living and gourmet magazines sites as well.
