  1. He learned from an instructor

  2. His base art of Wing Chun was learned from an instructor. He sought out several inspirations for Jeet Kune Do, focusing heavily on principles of fencing and american boxing.

  3. bruce learned wing chun...but not directly from yip man...most of the instruction was from wong shun leung but it was in  yip man's school. ..you still see this today....i study with so and so grandmaster....but your day to day instruction is probably with some of his other students.

bruce learned wu style tai chi from his father. (i think it was wu style) (heard this from dan inosanto himself)

to my knowledge bruce didnt learn any fencing from his father. his intro to fencing came via books. actually he had over 2000 books in his personal library.

the answer to your question is the same for all martial artists....both.

half of it is what your instructor teaches you...half of it is what you figure out on your own.

bruce studied whatever and whenever. but his base was wing chun, and it always was. he incorporated elements from other styles such as fencing, boxing, and grappling.

jun fan gung fu is basically modified wing chun. ...but that is the base to start from...yours may be karate, that guy's may be kali, mine might be muay thai.

it doesnt matter because "jeet kune do is formless, so it can accept all forms"

  4. both

  5. Kempo Jujutsu77,

You are correct it was Wu style Tai Chi that he first trained in.

  6. He originally began training in Wing Chung Kung Fu in Hong Kong under the legendary Yip Man.
