  1. Columbus discovered natives in many of his expeditions. He usually called them indians. Also China could have beat columbus to America in 1421. Also many native americans (i know a couple) prefer to be called Native Indians or Indians.

  2. umm... no... the natives were "discovered" well before Chris Columbus got here, he just made it common knowledge in the western world..... and he named them "Indians" because he thought he was in India - the guy was a moron who was looking to make a quick buck and wound up making life h**l for thousands of people.

  3. The Native Americans were already there.  In a sense, they "discovered" each other.  Columbus just happened to come along.

Think about it this way:  If a person from China, came to your country and saw you, the moment he got off of the airplane, would you say that he "discovered" you and your people?

Of course not.  Discovery means finding something that has not been previously known.  Perhaps the Spaniards and Italians had not known about the Native Americans, but other people certainly did.

  4. How do you discover a group of people? I don't think the native Americans were under the impression that they were lost. Did they get lost in the woods? Good think Christopher was there to save them.

  5. Red Indians... yeah, because that isn't a racially-offensive old-school term or anything.  You mean Native Americans?  Stipulations vary.  Some say it was the Vikings.
