Did he fry it?

Question

Ok, my younger brother hooked his, Toshiba 40 gig gigabeat, MP3 player up with the wrong power supply. It's rated at 3 volts 2.2 amps.... the power supply he used was 5 volts 3 amps.Now it won't even turn on.... Did he "Fry" it?.... or is it possible that he just killed the battery not the hard drive?He is really stressing over this.... please let me know what you think.
