Question:

Did my eyeglasses make me sick?

I haven't worn glasses in about 5 years. I've been wearing contacts night and day for that time. I just purchased some glasses to wear in the evenings just to give my eyes some rest. As soon as I put them on for the first time, I noticed that everything looked kinda weird and distorted. I figured it was because my eyes just weren't used to them, so I wore them anyways for about an hour to see if things would get better. During that hour, I started to feel kinda nauseous and I had a slight tension headache. I took my glasses off and put my contacts back in but am feeling very sick (nauseous) now. Could my glasses have done this to me? Has anyone else had this problem? Should I continue to try to wear the glasses to see if my eyes get used to them?

  1. If the headache you get from your glasses is in the back of your head, you probably want to get them checked to make sure the center of the glasses lenses line up with the centers of your eyes.

Otherwise, if the glasses have a different (stronger) prescription compared to your contacts, feeling nauseous when you first wear them isn't uncommon.  You could get a weaker prescription or just keep wearing them and get used to them.
