Question:

Did other people have bad experiences with female teachers growing up? Are women normally more impatient?

Growing up with ADD, I seemed to get in trouble with female teachers the most. For some reason I annoyed them the most. Yet, it was never intentional - I was far from a bad kid. I just rubbed the wrong people the wrong way growing up which singled me out for some worse treatment with other children growing up.

Not to make some sob story or an anti-woman thread (God knows I'd probably kill myself if they went extinct), but I'm wondering if other people have noticed the same thing growing up? It seems that female teachers in general were in a bad mood from the stress of life.

I think since very few men teachers become teachers for the sole fact that it pays poorly, many of them are in good moods because it's a job they truly wanted to have and have a passion for. Well, at least that's my theory anyways.

Anyone else any theories of their own?

  1. !)  The majority of your teachers were female and by the odds you would naturally have more trouble with female teachers.

    2)  You probably had less respect for the female teachers, and let you attitude show.

    3)  Women aren't normally anything.  We are all different.  Please don't stereo-type.  That is sexist.

  2. Going through school, I noticed that the male teachers tended to freak out far less than female teachers. They were far less likely to yell and get angry on a regular basis. They had a better sense of humour too.

It's possible that male teachers are antagonized less by students. I heard that a French teacher from my old elementary had a nervous breakdown in class. French teachers get no respect at all in Canada. Some teachers get more respect than others.

My favourite teacher ever was a woman though... redhead!

  3. I'd say the male and female teacher's I've had were equally good or bad. I guess everyone's childhood experience with teachers was different.

  4. As a teacher myself I have found that all are VERY different and have very different temperaments.  Personally I have been deemed the "fun" teacher simply because I put up with more of the minor aggravations than most.

However from my experience male teachers generally get just as frustrated as females, but are able to let more things go emotionally so things do not build up.

I also think many male teachers do not go as far as some female (yelling and what not) because their voices do tend to be naturally louder and they are more easily pointed out as inappropriately reacting to situations.

Female teachers also tend to take things personally...like you are doing things to make them mad and they will be judged by the other teachers or principal, where as male teachers see it as simply a behavior rather than a personal attack.

  5. I had male and female teachers representing the full spectrum from nice to nasty. Gender didn't come into it for me.

  6. Huge amount of variation in both genders for me... Neither stands our as being more hysterical than the other (except our male french teacher, but he was really fairly bad. And possibly mentally disturbed...) In terms of good teachers, also fairly even.

  7. Yes. Women are really impatient and biiitchy. Espicially during those days of the month

  8. Nope. it's not the women teacher's fault that you have ADD.  I think it's just an excuse parent's use to say, "my little sweety can't keep his mouth shut. can we drug him up?" I have been substituting for almost three years now and I currently in college studying education. One thing that works for me when I am in a class room I make the rules very clear. Seeing as how I only sub and teach for middle and high school students. I have only one rule. Come in to class and shut your mouth. I do not give warnings because I tell them that your warning to pay attention is when the bell rung if I have to ask you to be quiet, you will leave my class room. It's as simple as that. I don't yell and I don't argue. And I definitely don't take it personal.

  9. At my school the male teachers are nicer than the female ones.

I don't think it is because they are women, I think it is because of menopause....

  10. Nope

My favourite teacher was a woman. She was about 50 and very kind hearted. She encouraged all the kids and brought out the best in them. You could tell she really liked being a teacher

Sure I've had a couple of c**p female teachers and I've had a couple of terrible male ones too. We probably had about as many male as female teachers in my secondary (11-16) school

  11. now you mention it the males teachers were better in that sense (not better at job, more calm). i had a evil ****** of a teacher completly sexist, and failed guys just for fun (she failed the guy who won the school award). also, some of them just couldnt do the job.

  12. I only remember having one male teacher the entire time I was in elementary school. I liked most of my female teachers, not all. The one male teacher was really nice but I remember when he had a baby and must have been really stressed out because he got really b!tchy for a while.
