When we think of courtship among our cavemen ancestors, their is the image of a man dragging a woman by the hair. Is there any evidence that ancient humans engaged in rape on a mass scale, or does evidence suggest that it was typically a mutual thing.

  1. In what I know of history, men always "raped and pillaged"

It even talks of it in the bible as seen here

  2. It was a common procedure for a tribe to raid another and take away the women and the children.  They knew that there was safety in numbers so they took as many fertile women as they could cope with. A famous example of this is the rape of the Sabine women by the Romans.

I think that you should shed your ideas of cavemen. They seem to be the products of cartoons and Disney. When cavemen roamed around there were huge spaces between

tribes. This was the case until the late iron age when the population increase began.

  3. The Holy Bible records incidents of rape.

  4. I think that it was more common to be a mutual thing during those times (much like it is today), but rape was at least as much a part of culture as it is today.  There is no way of really knowing what those societies laws might have been and if rape was allowed or forbidden as it is in our culture.  There isn't any written record of that time.

  5. yes, most ancient civilizations have had evidence of rape, in the written texts.

  6. You forgot cannibalism
