no, they were ficticous characters. If you watch closely on the scene where she pays a dime for him to draw her naked, the dime is an "eisenhower" dime. Eisenhower was 22 at that time and a cadet at West Point. The dime that should have been used should have been a "Mercury" dime, which was the type of currency used in that period.

Yes, it was based on Rose's story...Im not sure if that was her real name (or his for that matter) but it was based on her real life experience on the titanic. I watched a documentary on it, and they interviewed the real 'Rose'
