  1. I think they found something that resembles a Hobbit,but I don't think it's been confirmed yet.

  2. Cariocae is right. National Geo and History and maybe Animal Planet have had episodes about the little humans nick-named 'hobbits' found on a small island in the South Pacific. No living specimens, but no fossils, either. Perfectly formed little humans the size of modern children.

  3. *Homo floresienses* is what it's been named.  It's thought by some to be an example of a normal human with microcephalic ("pin head") characteristics, but some (most?) anthropologists seem to think it's a species distinct from *homo sapiens*.  Interesting stuff, no?

  4. No.

    Hobbits aren't real.

  5. uhh no never

  6. What planet have you been residing on for the last couple of years? One with no TV or papers? The "hobbit" is a nickname for a dwarf skeleton found in a cave on the island of Flores. Depending on who you believe its either a dwarf microcephalic human or a dwarf homo erectus.

  7. The jury is still out on whether it was a distinct species of hominid, but yes, not one, but a series of diminutive hominid skeletons (I think about 10) were found on the island of Flores in Indonesia. They were dated to be between 90,000 and 15,000 years old, depending on the skeleton. If it is confirmed to be a new species, it will probably be named Homo floresiensis.

To kimberly below: the scientific fuss is about the possibility of the discovery of a new species related to ours that existed until not too long ago. The general media fuss is probably because of all the hype around The Lord of the Rings at the time.

  8. Hobbits are characters from fiction, so discovery of a skeleton is not possible.

    .

  9. It wasn't a Hobbit cause Hobbits are fiction, This Hobbit was a dwarf homo erectus skeleton, that they found somewhere in Indonesia.

  10. Why are we so amazed at this finding? There are pygmies and Watusis and different races all over the world with different skeletal features. Of course it is always exciting to find whole skeletons that are from so long ago, but to make a big deal about its genetic differences is going a little too far over the top.

  11. We don't call them "hobbits"... we call them "little people".

In related news, Middle Earth is battling Hogwarts for planetary domination.

  12. It's on Google...but it was a few years ago. They're "hobbit like"..not real hobbits.

  13. Yes, they found a species of people on some island which they called Hobbits. It was a feature article in an episode of National Geographics.

They are not Hobbits like the Lord of the Rings type.

However, they had long arms and very short bodies about 2 feet tall. I think they found around 10 of them. They used weapons and tools and they suspect the genetics might be mingled with some of the homosapien families on the island as there is an unusual number of very very short people.
