  1. I could only say Titanic hehehe (lol), silly me! that's the first word that crossed in my mind.

  2. 20th century.

    Consider:

    Propulsion-Sail&Steam to diesel&Nuclear

Size-Small to huge requiring enlarged locks, dredged channels, etc.

Function-limited to Oil tankers, submarines, aircraft carriers & Container cargo ships

    Design-vastly improved hydrodynamic designs

Navigation-Sextant to Loran to GPS navigation

Electronics-none to radar, long range communications, etc.

Control systems-rudder & sheets to drive by wire & wireless & by computer and gyro stabalization

    There is no comparison!

  3. Simple. They both changed drasticly!

  4. Its simple - there is no answer on this question. You can not compare them.

In both centuries they were some key inventions which introduced some completely new technologies and inventions.

  5. Good question! Lots of changes were made in both eras,

but I'd agree it was in the 20th Century.  We even advanced

to having the first ship run on nuclear power, the USS Long Beach! Check them out:http://www.radiationworks.com/nuclearshi...
