  1. it did and it did not.  It did because of the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves.  However, if you READ your history book, you will see that the opression of African Americans did not end there.  It opened up a whole new can of worms.  You should really read about it.  I took a class on it and a great book I read was "The Slave Community"  you should look it up.

  2. No.

The US Civil War was aimed at freeing the slaves, and the legality of slave ownership kind of ended when the civil war finished.

However, US states still permitted effective 'slavery' (by working and living conditions), through to the 20th century, and it wasn't until the black movement gained recognition through the work of Martin Luther-King et al in the 1960s, that racial equality was really introduced.

Slavery of a different kind now exists in many countries (including the US) to this day - through poverty, and poor living conditions.

  3. Which Civil War was that?

    Many countries have had them.....

  4. No.

in the US the "civil war" practically ended slavery in the southern states. in the norhern states it continued until the constitutional amendment was passed

Around the world slavery continued. In an international sense the end to slavery was brought by colonisation and anti-slavery patrols run by the Royal Navy and the US Navy (and sometimes the French and Italians).

Basically international slavery was ended by "gunboat diplomacy" - a good example is the end of slavery in Zanzibar (a major market on the East coast of Africa) - done by the aid of cannon firing on the Sultan's palace (the world's shortest war BTW- 16 minutes)

The slave market in Sudan was closed by Gordon. After his murder it was reopened and hundreds of thousands of Africans from as far as Congo and Mozambique passed through there. Closed again by the British "colonialists"

BTW slave trade is still running well. the Sudanese slave market is alive and well - and perfectly legal (in Sudan). A healthy Darfurian sells for some 200US$.

Nowadays they call it "cultural heritage" and the Politically Correct crowd says we can't call it evil- or force them to stop

  5. If you mean the U.S, it was officially abolished Before the end of the Civil War (emancipation proclamation was in 1862, war ended in 1865).

  6. Basically, Slavery ended in the united states with the emancipation proclamation. slavery was still technically legal in most states for many years. So, yes, slavery ended with the civil war.

  7. in USA, yes - but it still goes on elsewhere in the world

  8. No, it didn't. Not even the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery. Slavery, as an institution, ended in the U.S. when the 13th Amendment was passed in 1865. Some historians wold say that it ended in the South only in 1928, when legislation against debt-slavery and convict-lease systems was enacted.

There were many ways by which the South circumvented the 13th Amendment. The Jim Crows Laws were harsh, and gave little freedom, except in name, to former slaves. The Convict-lease system, also practiced in the South, allowed for the arrest and incarceration of blacks for very petty, minor offences which more often than not were made-up. These convicts were then leased out to farms, businesses, and worked by the State. Alabama was the first, and last, state to use this practice....they began it in 1846, and ended it in July of 1928.

  9. No, it still carries on today!

  10. What civil war are you on about?

  11. No, it did not!!! If you look around the world, you will find 'sweat shops' with kids working for pennies so that the big shops can have bigger profits. It makes me angry when the whinging West moan about low wages and there are children having to work 10/12 hrs a day to keep their families in food of the very basic kind. They are denied basic education which would in the long run benefit their own towns and villages. I am not sorry I have ranted a bit but

it is the way I feel.

  12. Yes it ended in the nation as nobody  allowed to own,buy or sell slaves..Many blacks went to Northern cities and became low wage earners and lived in slums,so slavery ended by Proclamation Emancipation  but took another form for generations until decedents of slaves got educated and political.

  13. Know it`s alive in Manchester according to a sulky little overpaid footballer
