  1. It began about 1963-because the President of teh US had a disabled relative----it took awhile for laws to pass and Special Education to become widespread


  2. Are you talking about Special educaction in that steps were taken to educate children with disabilities at all (i.e in a special school) as opposed to not educating them. Or are you talking about integrating special ed students in to schools with assistance from an aide or special ed teacher.

    In Vic, Australia students weren't integrated in to mainstream schools until approx 1984/85. But they were educating students in special schools in Victoria students were being educated in residential special schools as early as 1887.

  3. I was born in 1959 and have LD and no in most

    schools special education did not exist.At that

    time no one ever hard of a learning disability.

    By the time I was in school in the late 60s there

    was special ed but it was terrible,You were not

    taught how to read and do math etc.When I was

    in regular class I did ok by 6th grade I started flunking everything,when my part\ents tried to have

    a conference with my teacher-she said baloney

    there is no such thing as LD.
