Question:

Did stegosaurus lay eggs or did it give birth to live young? Provide evidence?

  1. You would expect them to lay eggs as all known sauruses did. However, there may be exceptions, like fish where some sharks are viviparous (giving live birth). The source given by RCarterMD does not cite fossilic evidence for its claim, nor does any other site I visited. One site claimed that no stego eggs had ever been found. A forum site raised a related question: how on earth did these beasts mate (with all those plates? One answerer gave a possible hint: "actually the female had a extra bone or some sort of muscle that tendon that allowed them to rise their tail higher than any usual animal could. So if you see my point, but I do imagine that the male kind of hurted the female. or if you have split theories they could lay on thier sides." There were also speculations that the female could lay unfertilizes eggs like most fish. The male would then ejaculate over the eggs to fertilize them.
