Question:

Did the Blues deliberately tank in losing their last 11 games?

WCE CEO Trevor Nisbett has publicly accused Carlton of tanking & deliberately losing games during the season. He says they did this in order to gain a priority draft pick.

Of course his counter part Greg Swann denied this claim.

To me it is just the carry over from the way the club carried on when John Elliott was "running" the club.

The WCE would nevah do anything like that!

  1. ha ha ha,the west coast eagles taking the moral high ground-what a joke, your players are out of control, drugs are rife through your club and if I'm not mistaken you guys took Judd as a priority pick when you drafted him years ago(thanks to the draft rules),imawunda the AFL set the rules my friend not Carlton we just played according to the rules, but no we didn't tank we just played a very inexperienced and young side that probably had no chance of winning even though they tried hard, and lets get it straight ANY CLUB in Carlton's position would do the same because they have an obligation to their members, players committee etc-mate its time for you to deal with your anger over this issue JUDD IS GONE and he's not coming back-get over it.

  2. anyone who tanks any sport should be banned nobody plays to lose

  3. Your west coast eagles are a pretty honest club aren't they?

Anybody would think you were a one eyed WCE supporter!

Have they ever done anything wrong?

Not trying to burst your balloon but we all remember things that our clubs have done that we're not always in agreeance with.

Just my humble Adelaide Crows supporters opinion.

  4. Nothing the Blues could do would surprise me.

They way they treated Lance Whitnell was pathetic. I'm not refering to their action of delisting him, that happens regularly.

But making public announcements that Chris Judd could have the captaincy at the club if he wanted it. That announcement was made twice before Whitnell (their captain at the time) was told he'd been cut.

..."Meanwhile, Swann rejected suggestions the Blues had tanked in losing the last 11 games, amid talk from Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett, the deal was distasteful.

"We didn't deliberatly lose games," he said. "I find it ironic. The pick West Coast got Chris Judd with was a priority pick, so Trevor's got a pretty short memory.":

  6. No - no way!  That would be daft.  For starters Blues were in a similar position 11 games out in 1995.  They re-committed to the club and one another and played awesome footy for the rest of the year (that was Kouta's 'good year').

Whether their hearts weren't in it over the last few weeks of the season, or whether they were holding back is open to debate but I can't imagine a proud club like Carlton happily accepting a wooden spoon, picks or no picks.  I've certainly never played at a club that would do that and when you think of the pressure on the very viability of clubs in Melbourne, it would be just stupid.

I think there's some clouds hanging over that tea-cup!

  7. No, they probably did not tank. They just selected a team of kids they knew couldn't win.

Probably does count as tanking though.

  8. All I know......Is that there were games to be won and Carlton were in that position to win them, and WOW...the wheels have fallen off.  Something fishy going on there.

As to say West Coast wouldn't  do anything like that...its because thay have a strong team to win games, but what about the drug issues, How long has that been going on?
