Did the Chinese get a great deal on a traveling Mariachi band

Did you see the opening ceremonies and how they played the same Mariachi song like every forth song? Even the US athletes were introduced to that Mariachi song!

Does this mean that the Chinese got a h**l of a deal on a traveling Mariachi band? OR Are the Chinese musicians learning Mariachi songs....and will all those Mexican Mariachis have their jobs off shored to China?

  1. OMG You noticed it too? I thought it was just me. Every other song was a Mexican song, I thought it was pretty funny.

    FQ - Calcio.

  2. I was a member of the all-female mariachi show group that performed at the Opening Ceremony in Beijing.

There were five ensembles representing the 5 continent rings of the Olympic games.  The mariachi was representing the "Americas" not just the "U.S.".  We just also happen to all have been born, raised and educated in the United States.

Each ensemble had three songs pre-approved by the Chinese Olympic Committee, so it wasn't just the mariachi ensemble repeating songs.  No one group played anything other than the 3 songs in the same order each time.  We actually wound up going through that "loop" six times before all of the athletes were out on the field.  We were photographed by all of the countries' athletes as they passed in front of us, some even coming on stage with us to take the pictures.

We all took our sombreros off in salute to the U.S. flag and the U.S. team as they passed in front of us.

We stood and played in the extreme humidity and heat with our full uniform (as did the Scottish bagpipers with their wool uniforms) for almost 3 hours, and enjoyed every second of it.

It was an honor to represent the AMERICAS and to perform for the largest venue on the planet.
