I read on the Vancouver Canucks website that the Leafs gave up on Mats Sundin. Is that true?

  1. As a Leafs fan, I can confirm this.  They have for some time. In fact, the only reason they haven't signed others is to keep $7M in cap space so it looks like they're still interested in Sundin.  It's like the Favre situation only in the NHL.  The fact is, there's more money for Sundin in Vancouver and a better shot at the Cup in Montreal.  Sundin's era in Toronto is all but over and I'd be the first one surprised if he signed with the Leafs.

  2. He gave up on the leafs. Year after year they told him we will bring in some help for you...and year after year they left him high and dry. Maybe now they can finally build from within instead of looking for that quick fix.

  3. Mats is all class.

That said he probably wants to finish his career in T.O., but yet he also yearns to have his name on the Cup - which won't happen anytime soon if he returned to play for the Leafs.

Wouldn't surprise me if he retired so he wouldn't offend the Maple Leaf fans...Montreal is probably the best team out there that's courting him right now (my beloved Red Wings aren't interested since they signed Hossa), & I'm sure it weighs on his mind at the discontent it would bring if/when he signs on with the Habs.

  4. If they haven't already then they definitely should.  Maybe if he stops getting so much attention for doing nothing he will pick up his feet and actually do something...He's leaving too many teams with huge ??? up in the air.  He needs to make a decision because some teams are either going to have 7-10 million less cap space or more after his decision.  Thats sizable enough that they need time to fill the hole....
