  1. some cultural influences were inherited by Filipinos.

but me as a Filipino, we benefit from Spain's colonization because of Spain, we became Catholic Christians.

  2. nothing but lost identity, neiter orient nor occident, americans completed what spanish started.

  3. No. Catholicism stunted our growth as a people. The Spaniards used religion to beat us into submission. The Spanish government never really cared about the Philippines. They sent all their "rejects" here - including the friars who abused us.

  4. The Spanish inadvertently gave the Filipinos the shared vision of being a country. Prior to the Spanish invasion the Philippines was a collection diverse tribes with no common language or government. The shared hatred for the Spanish, Americans and Japanese made the Philippines. I travel to the Philippines often and my wife is a Filipina. Al-tho I love the Philippines the country seems to be losing any shared visions outside of Manny Pacquiao.
