Now that the Bucs have a 10-game losing streak and a horrendous 7-21 record in August, can't we say they quit trying after the Nady and Bay trades?

  1. They're trying they just have a terrible team is all.

  2. There team is terrible. They have no pitching and no offense. They truly are pathetic.

  3. I've been waiting for the swoon all season.  I was so proud that they managed to stay withing 12 games of .500 after all the trades.  But now, as is the case with every season, they have started mailing it in.  Remember last year when they came out of the All-Star break with at rip roaring 2-14 record.

Well here's hoping for another high draft pick that we won't be able to sign next year.

  4. The Pirates "organization" quit WHEN THEY TRADED Nady and Bay!

  5. I think it's pretty sad to see our Buccos continue to lose and lose in the month of August. It's been like this pretty much every year, we play the younger players more often and don't play the veteran players as much. I personally don't feel it's the correct decision, but the management wants to give the future MLB players some playing time so they can earn major league experience.

So yes the Pirates did quit after trading Nady and Bay. They continue to be "sellers" at the trading deadline and don't seem to have the winning mentality. The only thing the Pirates can do is try and finish the season strong with a winning record in September and look forward to next season. It's going to be a LONG offseason.

  6. They're horrible ! I mean what do you expect from them now ? Who's their best player ? ? ?  NOBODY not even a decent hitter/pitcher.

  7. Ok, nobody quit. It was good for the team. Bay and Nady were both in the last year of there contracts. Since they are having great seasons when they would have become free agents at the end of this season, many teams would have gone after them. A low-market team like the Pirates would not have been able to compete and would have lots the players to free agency. They traded them so at least they got somebody in return, something, as opposed to nothing when they become free agents. It was very similar to the Indians trading of CC Sabathia and D'Backs trading of Dan Haren.

So i thing it was the best move. If they tried to trade them later or at the end of the season no team would have done it, they would have just waited for free agency. This is a common thing in baseball.

  8. They didnt actually outright quit, its just their offense is gone. McClouth is th eonly somewhat consistent player on both sides of the ball, and he simply cant do it all.

  9. The Pirates quit after Bonds and Bonilla left via free agency in the early 90's.

  10. The shame of the majors. The Pirates, once proud and productive NL anchor, given up on 15 years ago. That is such a shame.

  11. nah, they're just lousy

  12. No...they traded their talent and their poor pitching got tired.

Were you expecting them to be 21-7?
