  1. The United States is one of the pioneer states that organized the United Nations and it might be the reason why it is also the top contributor but most influential.

  2. yes. here is a history of the un from the un.

    http://www.un.org/aboutun/

  3. Basically the countries all the countries on the UN security counsel are the creators of the united nations. Those same nation on the security counsel are ones that won WWII

  4. Yes, the UN was founded in San Francisco, CA and was a major result of US actions.

  5. Yeah, From the League of Nations and what a mistake that was! (both)

  6. From August to October 1944, representatives of France, the Republic of China, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Soviet Union met to elaborate the plans at the Dumbarton Oaks Estate in Washington, DC. Those and later talks produced proposals outlining the purposes of the organization, its membership and organs, and arrangements to maintain international peace and security and international economic and social cooperation.

  7. When Harry Truman was in office, yeah

  8. Would the UN have been formed without our involvement?

  9. yea. we helped with a a lot of other countries after ww2

  10. Yes.  The US is one of the main organizers of the UN and it was created shortly after WW2 in an attempt to keep those kinds of things from ever happening again.  The UN headquarters is in New York as well.

  11. When I went to school, it was referred to as "The League of Nations" & it later became known as the "United Nations".  That's really all I can remember about it, except that it was the USA who invited the other countries to participate in the forming this "league".  Once again, it appears that another one of our good ideas could end up biting us in the rear!

  12. Good site for that info here:

  13. The U.S. in particular the Presidents Harry Truman and Woodrow Wilson, played a huge role in the creation of the United Nations.

  14. Yes and it turned out to be a waste of time and money.

  15. The United Nations was formed by communist sympathizers in the US and Europe and by the Soviet Union.  Communist Alger Hiss was one of the founding figures of the UN.

  16. President Truman and Secretary of State Marshall were key to its formation and they and the rest of the winning powers of WWII attempted to form an entity that would not have the weaknesses that were seen in the League of Nations.  If we turn our backs on the UN, we'd be acting against our best interests in such a way that the rest of the world will view it as confirmation of their suspicion that we actually have gone as crazy as the proverbial betsy bug.

  17. and ironically, I think the US should disband it. The UN is useless and pro-arab (this is coming from a liberal).

  18. Yes.

  19. I think it helped organize it.  We had the concept with the league of Nations which was disbanded because of their general uselessness and ineffectiveness.  Hmm..sound familiar?  Perhaps its time for a major Re-org at the UN.

  21. The U.N. started out as the League of Nations and was an idea proposed by President Woodrow Wilson in the early 1900's.

  22. well they made it they didnt help it was all of FDR's wifes idea after WWII

  23. yes, that's the only reason the UN lasted as long as it has, the League of Nations folded rather quickly
