Please think back way before the birth of christ. I need to know their origins (Nigeria especially Yoruban culture).

Any other info you know is good too.

  1. Basically what culture DIDN'T start out as a Hunting/Gathering society?

The advent of farming came with the Neolithic Revolution, within the last 5-10,000 years!

  2. yes love

  3. The Yoruba were originally recognized around the 4th century BC, but they certain existed long before this. They were definitely a hunting/gathering society, as were most indigenous to Africa in the same time. The Yoruba maintain that they are a uniquely distinct group that originated in a place known as Ile-Ife, a city now in Southern Nigeria.

  4. It depends on what and who the precursor culture to the Yoruba  were? Given how sophisticated the various Nigerian cultures were I think they and other West African cultures probably derived from earlier metal using cultures in the Sahel area. With the discovery of iron-working and hence sharper blades they moved south into Nigeria following the Niger river probably?
